ASTM A53/A53M - 24.pdf

ASTM A53 Grade A carbon steel pipes are carbon steel pipes defined by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard ASTM A53/A53M. They encompass three manufacturing processes: Type S (seamless), Type E (resistance welded), and Type F (furnace butt-welded). These pipes offer good ductility, formability, and weldability, and are primarily used for low-pressure fluid conveyance (water, gas, air), general structural applications, and mechanical equipment.

Classified by application (welded pipe / seamless pipe) and standards system, the grades listed below are equivalent grades with mechanical properties that closely match the respective applications. Please note that there are differences in the chemical compositions of each grade; separate verification is required for special operating conditions.

Country / RegionStandardGradeDescription
United StatesASTM A53/A53MGrade AASTM material for low- and medium-pressure high-temperature pipelines.
United StatesASME SA-53/SA-53MGrade AEssentially equivalent; when the standard version and pipe material type are the same, their chemical composition, mechanical properties, and key technical requirements are generally consistent.
United StatesAPI 5LGrade ATechnical requirements are highly consistent
EuropeEN 10216-1P195TR1
( Seamless Pipe )
It has a high degree of performance equivalence.
EuropeEN 10255S195T
( Welded Pipe )
It is approximately equivalent to Type E and Type F welded steel pipes conforming to ASTM A53 Grade A.
ChinaGB/T 8163
( Seamless Pipe )
10#Basic mechanical properties are highly similar; commonly used for fluid conveyance pipelines with low strength requirements.
ChinaGB/T 3091
( Welded Pipe )
Q195Grades of welded steel pipes for low-pressure fluid conveyance have slightly lower mechanical properties but are approximately equivalent.
JapanJIS G3454STPG370
( Pressure Pipe )
When used in pressure pipelines, its strength is slightly higher than that of ASTM A53 Grade A.
JapanJIS G3452SGP
( Ordinary Pipe )
Corresponds to low-pressure fluid-welded tubing; its applications and performance are similar.
JapanJIS G3444STK290
( Structural Pipe )
Carbon steel pipes for general structural use are approximately equivalent for structural applications.

Note:

The equivalent materials listed above are approximate substitutes for general engineering applications. If special requirements apply—such as pressure-rated certification, low-temperature impact, or corrosive environments—further verification is required based on the chemical composition, impact properties, and tolerance requirements specified in the relevant standards.
